IKEA Lighting Project- Advanced Design Principles
October 2017
This was a short 3 week project, in which I was tasked with designing a new desk light using an existing fitting from an IKEA light. The light itself should be sold in IKEA, and be stylised using the store's design philosophies. I also focused on making my product easy for the user to assemble, allowing it to be flat-packed and sold in packaging that is far smaller than the assembled product.

The final design consisted of a white base with a wire-supported frame wrapped in thick brown paper, lined with a clear backing to prevent it from being torn. The textured paper gave it a mottled effect, and a warm orange glow when switched on, as can be seen below, inspired by the highly popular Himalayan Salt Lamps. The geometric shapes along with the recyclable, sustainable materials both reflect IKEA's design philosophies.
