Replicate: Durabeam Fliptorch
Design Principles

This was a short 3 week project which helped build up my model making skills, as I was tasked with creating a 1:1 exact scale replica of a 1982 Durabeam Fliptorch designed by Nick Butler. The model wasn't intended to move, turn on, or be weighted, but rather be a model just used for demonstrating the product's appearance. The main materials used were jelutong, HIPS and acrylic.
The above image shows my real torch in the middle surrounded by several replicas including mine. This was one of the first full scale projects I completed, and was a crucial project in improving my model making skills, as well as selecting materials that could be sprayed and give a similar finish to the original product.
